What are the most romantic spots in Bruges?
Bruges is romantic unlike any other city in Europe – with his postcard-perfect medieval look, small romantic streets, amazing architecture, a lake literally called the “Lake of Love” and on top of that add the countless chocolate and beer shops scattered around the city centre. You’ve just got to see it for yourself!
So where do you start exploring? Here is a list of the most romantic spots in Bruges.
The Koningstraat Bridge overlooking Jan Van Eyckplein
This is a gorgeous location – rarely any tourists visit, so you can stay, enjoy the view and wave to the tourists in the boats passing under the bridge as much as you want. Who knows, you might even witness a wedding proposal 🙂

The park next to the Lake of love
Bruges is so awesome 🙂 It even has a lake literally called the “Lake of Love”. Most locals I have spoked with don’t agree where the name came from but some of them support the legend of a young and pretty girl named Minna who was in love with Stromberg, a warrior of a neighbouring tribe. Her father did not agree with her love and arranged her to marry a man of his choice. Minna escaped and ran into the forest. When Stromberg finally found her, she died in his arms of exhaustion. The lake was named after Minna and the bridge by the lake was considered the bridge of love, in her honour.
If you walk over the bridge and kiss your loved one, it will become eternal love.
The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde
The Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaerde is the only preserved beguinage in the Belgian city of Bruges. There are no more Beguines living there, but since 1927 it functions as a convent for Benedictines, founded by canon Hoornaert. It is a quite place and although there are lots of tourist coming here, you can still find some peace and quite to spend a romantic moment 🙂

Sint-Janshospitaal
Saint John’s Hospital has an eight hundred-year-old history of caring for pilgrims, travellers, the poor and the sick. It is a stunning location that I highly recommend you visit after dark. Located not far from the Bonifacius bridge it has stunning architecture and is beautifully lit at night.

Gouden-Handrei
I love this small street! It is right next the canal and is quiet and calm enough for a leisure stroll with the exception of an occasional local on a bike going somewhere. Beautiful bridges are located on both ends.

Bonifacius Bridge
One of the most picturesque spots in Bruges is the Bonifacius Bridge. Nestled in between two other beautiful Bruges highlights – the Gruuthuse palace with its stunning courtyard and Arentshof courtyard. Visit this location later in the day since less tourist will roam around. Just sit on the built-in bench and enjoy the surroundings.

Koningin Astridpark
This beautiful small park with stunning views is located right inside the city centre, not far from some of the most visited locations in Bruges and yet it is quiet and calm. Surrounding trees and bushes make it a somewhat secluded and romantic. It is an ideal spot for a short brake after running around the city or a romantic picnic with your loved one.

There are many more romantic spots in the city, so make sure to explore and enjoy!
